WELCOME TO AGE CONCERN MAYFIELD

OBJECTIVES

The Trust’s primary objectives are to help maintain the independence and quality of life of older people living in the area, enabling them to stay on in their own homes despite advancing years.

SERVICES AVAILABLE

In pursuit of these objectives, Age Concern Mayfield (ACM) works to provide a range of Home Support Services, to include some or all of the following:

  • Cleaning
  • Laundry
  • Cooking
  • Shopping
  • Bathing
  • Nail clipping
  • Small DIY projects
  • Occasional gardening

Notes:
      1. Modest charges are made at varying rates for these Services.

2.  We are unable to offer nursing services.

3.  We cannot provide emergency cover or assistance.

LOCAL AREAS COVERED

Although centred on Mayfield, we have usually been able to offer these services well beyond the village itself.  At present, they extend as far out as Heathfield, Horam, Burwash Common, Cross-in-Hand, Hadlow Down and Five Ashes.  However, our ability to respond quickly to requests for help in more distant locations has to be determined by the number, experience and abilities of the Home Helps and ACM volunteers available for us to call on at any one time.

ACCESS TO SERVICES

Initial enquiries should be made to Ruth DANIELLS, Fieldwork Co-ordinator, via the

ACM HELP LINE on 01825 830180 or 830697.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES

We aim to supplement the regular Services above by offering additional activities from time to time throughout the year, for example:

Theatre trips – are arranged as opportunities occur in Tunbridge Wells, Brighton, and Eastbourne.  We arrange 2-3 every year, often linking with the Tuesday Club in Mayfield to take larger parties of 30-40.  These outings are self-funding.  For further details, please see the Calendar section.

Local outings to places of interest – in the spring and summer to historic sites, National Trust properties, famous houses and gardens, etc.  Age Concern Heathfield lend us a minibus for these occasions.  The trips are planned for afternoons only and always include tea out somewhere.  They are planned and managed by our President, Robin Howden, who may be contacted at the Lunch Club or on 01825 830277.

Lunch Club – meets regularly on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at the Carpenters Arms, Fletching Street, here in the village.  Up to 30 people attend at a cost of £6.50 per head.  One can ask to join the list of regulars by contacting Betsy Dixon, LC co-ordinator, on 01435 873086.  Volunteer drivers are usually available to help those who are no longer able to get there and back under their own steam.
